I'm not a terribly negative person, but I don't know that I'm exactly the 'cup half-full' type either. I think I'm more of a realist. Things simply are what they are. But like anyone else, I sometimes get caught up in negative thinking and tend to take it out on myself. So I enjoyed reading this post, and this one. They were good reminders that big or small, our thoughts, feelings, and viewpoint of ourselves and our kids have a huge impact on our actions and reactions.
I want my kids to think well of themselves, not haughty, just that they have confidence in their abilities and worth. Kids often imitate what they see, so it's important for us as parents to model good self-worth. This makes family life all around a happier and more cheerful experience. So take a few minutes, and make a list of your own, then have your kids make one too. Then lets all sit back and cut ourselves some slack!
A friend of mine is a bit nervous about becoming a parent for the first time. She's concerned that she is going to make a lot of mistakes. I told her that she probably would make a few, we all do. But that in reality it's pretty hard to do it really wrong. I told her there is about 998 different ways to do it right, and maybe only one or two that someone could really say, 'whoa lady! that's just wrong.' She's not anywhere near messing up her kid. She's going to be a great mom.
And so is pretty much every other mom I know. We just have to start believing it ourselves. And a big part of that comes from believing in ourselves.
So, that being said, here is my Top 10 Tuesday things I love about myself:
10.) I'm a dog, cat, horse, bird, hamster, goldfish, all-around animal person.
9.) I am not afraid of bugs, frogs, or snakes. (though I am cautious and use common sense!)
8.) I love to read.
7.) My hubby borrows tools from MY (purple) tool-bag!
6.) I LOVE music!
5.) I make good coffee.
4.) I kiss and hug my kids all the time!
3.) I have strong faith.
2.) I tell my kids I'm sorry.
1.) I have empathy for others, especially my kids.
Good day, friends!
*Victor says everything is more fun when it's a countdown, and he suggested that I try it with my 10 Thing Tuesday posts. So I am. Hope you like it!
How true, how true. Plus I've heard said, "Your children don't really remember your mistakes till about 4 or 5 yrs old so we actually have 4 or 5 yrs of guilt free time and error!" Although I might need 10 to 20+ plus though. :-)
