Welcome to Wordy Wednesday!
Today's subject:
HILARIOUS
That's right people! Let's tickle our funny bones today. After all, parenting is exactly this, hilarious. Anyone who ever wanted to join the circus need only to become a parent. Voila! You're smack in the middle of the real Comedy Central.
It doesn't always feel very funny in the moment, when you are the target of a pee fountain, again. Or when your toddler has pulled all the laundry you just folded off the table. Or went swimming in the dog water, again.
But in the grand scheme of things, those are the moments that make us laugh, even if it's after the fact. Of course they are annoying, or irritating, or exhausting in the moment. They can even be the exact same moments that make us cry first, but so often, we laugh later. An entire genre of film wouldn't even exist if these weren't the moments that are truly gut-busting. It is funny, and that's great because laughter is very good for us and our kids! Especially when things get extra stressful.
Think of all the crazy things that your pre-kid self could never have imagined saying. For example, just this week at our Mommy Meet-Up, a friend and I are chatting and we watch as Kit places freshly plucked grass in her mouth.
Me (squinting to see Kit across the yard): I think she just ate grass.
Her: Oh...I take it we're not worried about it?
Me: Nah, it's a lot better than many of the other things she eats.
Her: What?! Are you serious?
Me: Of course I am! This is the child that tries to snack on dog food on a daily basis. At least grass is a vegetable.
Her (shrugs): True. I guess that's one way to get some fiber!
Then we crack up of course, because that is the most ridiculous yet real conversation ever! Well, probably not ever, but you get the point. At some point we all end up saying something that is so totally, utterly insane that it just makes you laugh 'till you need a diaper yourself.
Here are some links to some very relatable, and very hilarious videos for today!
So borrow a diaper and laugh until you get side cramps :)
And last but not least! My favorite quote for today:
Even very young children need to be informed about dying. Explain the concept of death very carefully to your child. This will make threatening him with it much more effective. - P. J. O'Rourke
Have a very Wacky Wednesday everyone!
My little boy eats things he shouldn't. He does it so regularly that #7 on my speed dial is poison control. He's eaten cat food (of course), drank a trial-size bottle of shampoo, a stick of chalk, cat poop (sorry to say), 409 spray, half a container of lip gloss, and the list goes on and on! Kids are more durable than they look.
